Sustainability

Our Association has adopted the concept of intangible cultural heritage identified in the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as its main domain and we aim to research, collect and promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage and ensure its sustainability. The concept of sustainable development involves the guarantee of exploring, putting into practice and ensuring the continuity of this process for a livable world with maximum benefit to humanity. Since ICH Convention considers culture as a transmissible element from one generation to the other and as a living and durable heritage rather than something bygone, it is essential to reevaluate the relationship between sustainability and ICH. The objective of our Association is to evaluate social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainable development with holistic approach. Because, if only economic contribution of ICH is featured and social and environmental context is ignored, heritage would inevitably suffer from erosion. It is important to avoid such unidimensional approaches which may cause danger of extinction instead and don’t help safeguard cultural heritage.
